I have discovered that riderless horses can walk straight through fences.

I enclosed my two horses with an ordinary oak fence, and discovered that they were frequently escaping. I thought they were jumping or something, since you can do that while riding, but today I witnessed one actually walk right through the fence like it wasn't there.

This affects no other animals, does not work when you are riding said horse, and affects both summoned and naturally-occurring horses.
