At first I thought I was losing my mind. I would build something and would go back and sections would be missing. I thought perhaps I missed this because my builds tend to be big.
This is very prominent with bridging long distances. You will build it, then go back through and it might be all there and then it might not. Here is what I think is happening. Something is going on when the server updates... the deja vu moments when you get reset back a few blocks, only it is doing it to builds.
I had just got through building this Ice Road, and went for a test drive on my boat, only to end up going over an edge and dropping into Lava below. As I was traveling I attempted to keep it slow as to not get as many artifacts in the graphics as the render is not keeping up.
I have added the server.properties masking the port information for privacy.
I should add that this is not an isolated event. This has happened multiple times to me and the people on this server. I am certain I have experienced this in the single player game as well.
