If you shoot an arrow straight at the ground with a flame bow, you will find that the texture does not appear. It is not because of the fact that you are looking straight down at a 2d texture because if you walk as soon as you shoot the arrow and continue looking at it, the flame texture never appears. This is probably because it has no back texture.
