The bug
When you attack a mob by throwing a Riptide-enchanted trident, the mob often takes knockback in a random direction (sometimes directly towards you) instead of away from you, which would be the expected behavior similar to normal melee and projectile attacks.
How to reproduce
- Set weather to rain with /weather rain
- Give yourself a trident and enchant it with Riptide (/enchant @s riptide, any level works)
- Switch to 3rd person mode (using F5) and throw the trident at a mob
