I drowned and when I went back to my items it was all there except my armor. There were no mobs around, there was no lava anywhere and I know a fish didn't take it. I had just crafted and trimmed it so there was no way it had the vanishing curse on it.

I've read around and found a few others with this problem but they were from a slightly older version and I just wanted to tell you guys it's still around.
