In my example an untraded villager refuses to accept any work block placed in a 16 x 16 x 4 range. Instead attaching to blocks about 40 blocks away. Jumping from fisher, to mason, to leatherworker (where the only to cauldrons in my base are in a building on the side of the base) but no matter what refuses the composter placed next to it.

In one screenshot is the example leather worker, and the other is a quick test world where the farmer villager on the left, which was spawned in that glass box, is attached to the composter on the right despite not being in range. I searched it up and everywhere seems to say that they only have a 16 x 16 x 4 range.
