Nintendo Switch
At a certain point in a world, the game starts auto saving quite a lot. This results in sounds being behind events, blocks not showing a breaking animation but just disappearing, then later breaking or not breaking. If there are a lot of mobs nearby the game also tends to freeze, with or without the auto save icon. If you are running or swimming, you get to a point where there is nothing to see until the game catches up.
The problem is especially bad in the Nether, especially when mining the nether. You can be easily killed if there are magma cubes and agro pigmen or enderman all after you at the same time when the game freezes. You can forget about using elytra at all as you end up flying out to an area where there is nothing and then crash into a hill when it finally animates.
This has been my experience since the wild update and it just seems to be getting worse. At a certain point a world is unplayable and I just start a new world from scratch. It's disappointing and frustrating to build a nice world with lots of great items only to find the game unplayable.
I only play games on my console (not on a server), and this happens whether or not I am online. and whether or not I have autosave upload to cloud turned on. I have the render distance very low (5 chunks) and simulation distance at 4 or 6 chunks. I have checked for corrupt data many times. Nothing. I have done multiple restarts, clearing cache, all the standard stuff. This happens on multiple consoles.
As it seems that auto save is part of, if not all of the problem, perhaps offering the choice of turning auto save off makes sense, at least to start with.
