Last night, following installation of the latest update, I went mining with an iron and a diamond pickaxe and an iron shovel, all of which had enchantments, as well as other stone tools. I emerged after a bit with an inventory full of obsidian, diamonds, emeralds, coal, lapis and a bit of iron. I returned to my home just across the bay, placed things in appropriate chests, put the iron to smelt, and saved and quit to join my family for dinner. The last thing I did before exiting was to place my lapis in the chest near my enchanting table along with my enchanted iron and diamond tools mentioned above.

After dinner, I returned to the game and set to constructing a nether portal nearby. After spending some time in the nether, I returned to my home chests to grab my iron pickaxe (enchanted with Fortune III, among other things) but all three of the enchanted tools along with all of the lapis that I had dug up while mining earlier that day, were gone: simply not there.

I hadn't died and I'm pretty darn sure I didn't accidentally drop four of my most valuable items then erroneously remember placing them in the chest. I also searched every other chest in my home (and even a few of my kids' chests in their nearby homes) to make sure I hadn't simply placed things in the wrong chest. I also searched my chests at my newly-constructed nether portal on in both the over and nether to no avail. I retraced my steps from the mine to the chests to the nether and back, just to make sure that I didn't find something I'd accidentally dropped, and I found nothing still. While looking through my other chests, however, I was able to confirm that the diamonds, emeralds and obsidian I'd mined using those very same enchanted tools earlier that evening, were there as they should be. The tools and lapis I placed in the chest near my enchantment table were simply vanished. I searched high and low, and have racked my brain trying to figure out what else could have happened to those things, but have come to the conclusion that there was some error that resulted in them disappearing from the chest in which I'd placed them.

In attempting to discern what happened to my enchanted tools and lapis, I recalled that two days ago, before the most recent update, all of the sheep and chickens disappeared from the fenced-in animal area we had constructed at that house also, just out front. We had several sheep and a few chickens, along with several cows. The cows remained but the sheep and chicken simply vanished without a sign. They weren't wandering around nearby, there was no mutton or chicken, etc., they were just gone. I don't know if that's related, particularly since it was from before the most-recent update, but that's something else that's disappeared without any apparent reason recently.

The loss of these items, including the enchanted tools, lapis and animals, is annoying but it's not a huge loss. Of course, I would like the things restored, but mostly I would like to make sure that this does not continue to happen in the future. If it is helpful, the world is uploaded to my realm. I just verified via another PS4 (running the same OS and version of Minecraft) that the items are missing.
