Recently, I was playing on my normal survival world, and I was traveling in the nether. I was jump-placing netherrack to reach a cliff, when suddenly, I took four hearts of damage. I looked around, but there were no ghasts in sight, and no other mobs either. I ate a golden apple and continued upwards. just as I made it to the top, I recieved damage and had only half a heart left. I had used 34 blocks

I tried it again as an experiment, and towered 30 blocks before I died (I used no potion effects this time). I found out that if you die from jump/placing 30 blocks netherrack, the game says you died from fall damage, even if you do not fall.

(edit): This bug does not appear to occur in the overworld.

I hope this gets fixed. Thank you.
