When I click on the PLAY button the game launches, shows the MOJANG screen then doesn't respond and crashes.

How to replicate the problem:
1. Open Minecraft
2. Press PLAY
3. Watch the game crash

I've had this problem for quite a long time now, i've uninstalled the game and re-installed it many times as well as re-installed Java.
This problem occurs on most (if not all) versions of Minecraft.
