Trying to give yourself a spawn egg using commands such as /give, /summon, etc. with a specific damage value (which determines the type of spawn egg) gives you a white spawn egg that is completely useless, as it does not spawn in any mobs. The white spawn egg received will retain other values such as custom names but not the type of spawn egg.
