One layer of snow behaves different than multiple snow layers in these ways:

• Replacing snow layer by right clicking with block:
  This is the same behavior like flowers have. Right clicking them with a block replaces the flowers.
  • One snow layer: Works
  • Multiple snow layers: Won't work
• Placing snow layer on side of already existing snow layer
  • One snow layer: Won't work, increases existing snow layer height
  • Multiple snow layers: Works
