OS: Windows 8.1 (ver 6.3, arch amd64)
Java: 1.8.0_25 (by Oracle Corporation)
Launcher: Minecraft Launcher 1.6.11 (bootstrap 100)
Minecraft: 1.8.3 (updated Fri Feb 20 14:00:09 GMT 2015)

Unconfirmed
Basically when I launch minecraft it comes up with the normal menu screen but it is all white with the play offline option. When i click on play offline it launches and takes me to the normal minecraft menu screen.
When I click to play on minecraft realms an error appears saying 'Could not connect to realms: unrecognized windows sockets error: 10106: create'. And when I click on single player and load on of my saved games a crash report appears.
However I am connected to the internet when I am on minecraft since I was planning to play on a server which my friend and me have.
I was wondering what was wrong with the game and if there was an update i missed?
Oh yeah and the crash report says this ...

// But it works on my machine.
