1) Open Minecraft 1.8.X
2) Select Render Distance: 32 Chunks and quit game.
3) Open Minecraft 1.7.X
4) Open a map or join on a multiplayer server
The game crash, here is the log: http://pastebin.com/V3MNKjPC
This is because the render distance still in 32 chunks on Minecraft 1.7.X and doesn't update.
