1. Grab yourself a Book and Quill.
2. Write something in it (or not) and sign it.
3. Put it in an Item Frame.
4. Remove any written Book from your inventory.
5. Pick block or ctrl/⌘ pick block it.
6. You then get a useless Written Book saying "* Invalid Book Tag *."

It should give you the book itself, not a broken book.
