The area that was flashing should have consistently rendered.
the area flashed seeming randomly
I'm not sure how to reproduce this bug, but I am pretty certain that this is enough information.

I was in creative mode and flying
The only last detail to fully reproducing the bug would be a redstone torch under the block behind the sheep, as shown in the world file.

this does not appear to be related to the world, as the same (or very similar) glitch showed up on multiplayer, albeit modded multiplayer, it was a vanilla client.
