I created a regular map about a few hours prior to this. It automatically loaded up my world with (I'm not sure if intentionally) my house – where I crafted and first converted the map from Empty Map to a proper one – very close to the bottom right. Much of my vicinity that fit on the map, straight and north and west of where I was (even where I hadn't been) had been completed on the map with the exception of the upper left.
Later, I resized the map, zooming the default scale out by one. I took the map from my crafting table and used it as normal, but it became glitched. The direction I had been facing and the location I was at upon crafting the zoomed out map were where my icon stayed, no matter where I moved. In addition, the map was still at the same scale as before.
In the image below, I've captured all I can that's pertinent. I have debug mode open, which shows I'm definitely facing north. If you look just right of the inventory, you can see a bit of my player icon on the map, though for some reason it's still facing east and still placing me inside my home (when I'm in fact outside, a few blocks away). The additional information from hovering also shows scale, and whatnot. The debug menu probably covers a bit more that may be useful.
I have not tried logging out and logging back in yet.
