redstone deletes chest

I went to open a chest with redstone in my hand,

I right clicked the ground or wall around the chest and it disappeared, releasing all contents and placing a thing of redstone dust on the ground.

Steps to Reproduce:
place a chest on the ground and fill it with things,
with redstone in hand right click the ground the chest is on,
chest disappears with no sound effect.
