I first experienced the issue that's already been reported where doors and trapdoors appear in the wrong state (though their hitboxes show the correct states). Then I decided to descend a ladder through a trapdoor. When I tried to go back up the ladder, the trapdoor was in the way. Hmm, I though I left it open. (Obviously I couldn't see if it was open or not.) Right-click. Still in the way. Repeat ad infinitum. (Turns out this isn't a bug: I was just running into the edge of the open door.)
However, when I was opening and closing it, it seemed to pick an opening sound or a closing sound at random (i.e. not the opposite of the sound it previously made). Also, it made no sound when I tried to open/close it while crouching on the ladder. In both cases, its state did not change visually. When I walked away, came back, and opened it from the floor below, it opened up (including visually) right away.
