my boat crashed into soul sand and i died

i thought that the soul sand would absorb all of the boats travelling speed.but then at high speed i crashed my boat into the soul sand and my boat did not break but i died (i had full iron armour)
then i respawned and my hand was in a weird position.
hitting a regular block does not kill you at max speed.
i also discovered that without armour/items that it will take only half your health away
also the death message sais *(playername) hit the ground too hard.
the worst part was that my items where thrown up to 15 blocks away and some where invisible

• only works for survival mode *
  1. have a soul sand barrier to crash into.
  2. go about 1000 blocks away (or enough to go at max speed)
  3. then crash into the soul sand at max speed
  4. you should die!
