I expected to enter the nether portal and exit in the overworld like normal

I went to the Nether and I traveled quite a bit. I went back to my portal and I went through it. As soon as I entered the portal, my game crashed with no explanation. When I re-entered the game, I was still in the nether. I entered the portal a second time, but it worked. My skin had turned to Steve as well, but that may have been for another reason.

I am not sure how to reproduce this as it only happens occasionally. If there have been similar reports of this, mine may help. I do not have time to check for similar reports currently.
