What actually happened was...:

The chest opened but the chest interface did not show up. After exiting the portal without returning to the overworld the chest stayed open. After providing a block update the chest made the closing sound but did not shut. The chest only shut after right clicking and exiting the chest interface.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to Nether
2. Enter Nether Portal (as if to return to overworld)
3. While teleporting open a chest
4. If you exit the portal without returning the chest will stay open
