Putting down a boat, throwing an Ender pearl, and getting in the boat before the pearl lands causes damage to you but doesn't teleport you.
Note that you cannot throw an Ender pearl while sitting in the boat or minecart.

Also works with Minecarts. It damages you but you don't teleport.
