What I expected to happen was nothing

What actually happened was all water disappeared but it was still dark as if it was there

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Fly 20+ blocks above water, mine was at 83Y
2. Fly in different directions until water disappears, see screenshot 1

Notes:
A. Having the night vision effect on returns it to normal but in a lighter shade caused by the effect see screenshot 2
B. When effect is taken off the water disappears after a few seconds
C. When approached, water returns to normal
