When clicking on any item in a creative or survival inventory, if you click once the item fails to pick up. To pick it up you must click and hold to move the item. In a creative inventory you can only pick up items on at a time and you are prevented from picking up multiple items with once click. You have to click and drag each item, multiple times to make a stack. This effect the main inventory and the hot bar.
