The lighting of the end crystal beam seems to break at variable Y coordinates, depending on- what display adapter, the Y coordinate of the crystal, how close you are to the beam and sometimes, render distance, and java version (java 1.8.0 doesn't have any problem), night vision changes how it looks.
most common is completely black then fades to sky/fog color. instead of the intended all-grey.
this effects 1.17-22w11a
me and some friends replicated this on multiple different environments:
On AMD Radeon Vega 8:
On Vega 10: (its black all the way up)
On GeForce GTX 1660ti:
On Intel UHD 620 w Mesa Driver:
(with night vision
To reproduce:
Place a end crystal near 0,0, and run
/data merge entity @e[type=minecraft:end_crystal,limit=1,distance=0..5] {BeamTarget:{X:0,Y:2000,Z:0}}
