I spent a few long hours searching and looking around at the new generation. Wanting to start my new singleplayer world but in 1.18, I checked things out but have not in that time found any ore veins.. I am not sure if they are more hidden from open cave walls.. As far as I have seen, digging around in a ton of these, none of them are spawning ore veins.
