i have a waterlogged spot next to my axolotl pond so that sugarcane can grow near it for decoration. the axolotl will sometimes (rarely) go on land and when they do they will want to return to water eventually. they detect the waterlogged block (mine was water and then a wood slab on top) as water they can go in so they sit on the slab and eventually die due to lack of water.
