If the player has a chest, trapped chest, ender chest, or barrel GUI open and is forcibly moved out of range so the GUI closes itself, the container becomes bugged.  Bugged containers no longer play sound effects or animations when opened or closed, bugged trapped chests don't activate redstone, and bugged barrels don't activate observers.  Items can still be stored and retrieved.

Shulker boxes are not affected by this bug.

Bugged containers become fixed if the chunks are unloaded.  If in spawn chunks, the world must be restarted in order to fix them.  All testing was done in single player, will possibly work differently in multiplayer.

To replicate, make a minecart track and place a trapped chest at the start.  Enter a minecart and begin its movement, then open the chest.  Once you travel enough that the GUI closes, attempt to activate redstone with the now-bugged trapped chest.
