Using middle mouse button on creative or survival doesnt work on cauldrons that have any amount of liquid in them

What I expected to happen was...:
To highlight the cauldrons in my inventory in survival, and to give me a cauldron in creative like it does with any other block

What actually happened was...:
the button press does nothing

Steps to Reproduce:
1. place a cauldron
2. fill it with water or lava, any amount and can be from dripstone or a bucket
3. press middle mouse button to try to highlight a cauldron in inventory
