When I tried placing a sign on a fence, it placed the sign, but I couldn't edit it. With that I mean that it didn't 'open' the 'Edit sign message' screen. Before my laptop went into sleep mode, it worked fine, but when I woke it up again, reloaded my world it didn't. I tried restarting minecraft entirely, didn't work either. On everything it worked, except on a fence

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place a sign, edit the text on it
2. Put your laptop into sleep mode by closing it
3. Open it up, play your world
4. Try to place a sign; it appears empty
