Bluetooth wireless keyboards are becoming increasingly common on modern devices. These keyboards often go into power saving modes when they're not in use, and otherwise often have connectivity issues and will briefly disconnect/reconnect to the PC.

When this happens while playing Minecraft, and the keyboard reconnects moments later, the game stops responding and needs to be force-closed.

My PC came with a Bluetooth keyboard, so these brief disconnects happen quite often, and as a result, my game stops responding quite often.

I've tested this in Minecraft 1.14.4 and 1.15.2 using two different keyboards by intentionally disconnecting them (flipping off the power switch on the Bluetooth keyboard and flipping it back on, and physically unplugging/re-plugging a standard USB keyboard) and get the same results. I've also tested this on multiple PC's and multiple different releases of Windows 10 and get the same result.

      • Minecraft does not need to be the application in focus for this to occur.
      • a key does not need to be pressed down for game to stop responding
      • Minecraft experiences this issue in windowed and full-screen (F11) mode.
      • Affects Bluetooth wireless keyboard and USB keyboards alike

I've included an attachment showing this happening. On the Windows Settings window to the left, Windows indicates "connected" when the Bluetooth keyboard is connected, and "Paired" when it is turned off. Minecraft is open on the title screen on the right, which can be seen freezing when the keyboard re-connects.
