I was kidnapping villagers to put in my base from the nearest village, (thousands of blocks away), and after I brought one through the portal, he wouldn't change his profession from a farmer and actually started trying to walk back to the village. I have not traded with him, and I waited for a full two daylight cycles before reporting to make sure.
