When you have bubble columns (soul sand or magma blocks) the bubbles do not show when your head is out of the water. It's a visual glitch but it gets annoying when you do not know when a deep water ravine is under you. You can't see these particles because you're not in the water. The particles only show when you're in the water.

To reproduce:
You need to find a deep water ravine with magma blocks exposed from the surface. Go in the water to see the particles. Once you hop out of the water, the particles are invisible, but they are still there.
