In creative, spawned horse with diamond armor. Tamed and saddled horse. In gui, it showed the horse wearing armor, but no armor was in the armor slot. Put diamond horse armor in armor slot, switched to survival, played with horse. While playing, I fell down a long enough distance to normally kill a horse, armor or no armor (tested later). The horse only lost 3 1/2 hearts.
