Game crashes before reaching title screen

      Upon clicking "play" in the launcher for Minecraft: Java Edition, a "Game Crashed" message is displayed, regardless of version. The output log consistently shows "Process crashed with exit code 1".

      I updated all my drivers and Java shows no updates.
