Long backstory short, I decided to make an igloo my home, and went to carve out an area between the igloo and basement to put in an enchantment room. However, when I mined out a block in the "stairwell" so to speak, the ladders all broke at once and I plummeted to my death.
After reloading a save backup(since I couldn't just climb down and get my stuff), I climbed down and investigated. There seems to be some kind of bug that prevents ladders from being placed vertically one on top of the other like they're supposed to. The ladder in the igloo was pre-generated, but as soon as I updated a nearby block by mining one out, the updated ladders broke, which updated the other ladders to break, and so on. Also, as demonstrated in the video, trying to place two ladders as normal results in them both breaking and dropping as items.
