This needs to be fixed in 1.11!

Place a map duplicate in an item frame to create green arrow on it. the placement of the item frame needs to be outside of spawn chunks.

Now move away from the map location and reload the word, all green arrows disappear, except for the ones loaded around you and in the spawn chunks, since they reload.

Once you load the chunks again, the green arrows appear on the map.
