i stand at one end of the rail and the minecart with chest never returns. this is a east west rail where the mine cart goes from one end to the other and is not a rail design problem (the rail works). it takes my character 2 minutes to walk the length of the rail and it takes the cart 1 minute (end to the opposite end). when i stand half way between rail ends the minecart works. it seems as if the minecart does not work if i am too far away from it. when i follow the minecart from one end to the opposite end there is no problem. when i stand at one end of the rail the cart never returns (this is the problem).

another strange thing i have noted is that i can watch the sun or moon rise or set depending on which end of the rail tunnel i stand: east or west end. there is no way to see the surface, where the sun and moon can be seen, while in this rail tunnel. when standing at one end of the rail tunnel you cannot see the opposite end. there is adequate lighting the length of the rail tunnel and at both ends.
