The new Minecraft launcher will cause a BSOD crash on Windows 11 devices when attempting to either open up two instances of the game or opening one instance after closing a previous instance.
Issue:
BSOD crash when opening multiple instances of the game. The stop code is "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION" and the failed service is wcifs.sys.
How to reproduce:
Reboot a Windows 11 PC. Open up an instance of Minecraft Java. Close that game. Attempt to open up a new instance of Minecraft Java. It should lead to a crash.
Reboot a Windows 11 PC. Open up an instance of MInecraft Java. Reopen the launcher and attempt to open up a second instance. Click accept on the disclaimer about running multiple instances. It should crash then.
Notes:
The PC will not crash when trying to open up another instance after closing the initial one if you:
1. Close the original instance of the game
2. Open the Launcher
3. Go to Task Manager and terminate the Launcher task.
4. Reopen the Launcher and start a new instance
Another method to prevent a crash is to:
1. Close the original instance of the game
2. Uninstall the MInecraft Launcher from the "Apps and Programs" section of the Settings app.
3. Go to the Xbox app and redownload the Minecraft Launcher.
4. Reopen the Launcher and start a new instance
