Was in a middle of a mission and PC locked up.  Had to hard reset the PC.

Upon loading MCD back up, my character was not present and had been deleted, though alternative characters are still present, was only the character that I was playing on at the time that has been deleted.  Many hours playing this game have simply vanished.

Upon checking google / reddit,  countless people with the same issue, adding my frustration to the list.  Enable cloud saves or fix what ever is auto deleting said characters, unacceptable.
