When typing in chat on previous versions, there was a transparent grey background (the same color as the chat background) in the area you type. However, this seems to be missing in 13w38a, which makes it hard to read text as you're typing it.

Note: it may just be my graphics card, as this snapshot includes many rendering changes. Added a screenshot and environment info in case that's what's going on.
