&lt;p&gt;The first time Shears are used, like any consumable tool,  a green durability bar appears underneath the tool.   This does not happen when the Shears are used on tall grass or roses (another two block tall vegetation).  Accordingly,  it appears Shears do not take damage from these plants.   I expect this will be the case for other two tall vegetation as well,  but no others were readily available to test).  &lt;/p&gt;</comment>
