in java Beta 1.8.1
Redstone could go down glowstone
in java release 1.0
Glowstone was change to transparent and redstone could not be placed on top
in java release 1.2.1
Redstone could be placed on glowstone, but still could not go down
</comment>
                            <comment id="313329" author="zebulanstanphill@gmail.com" created="Mon, 13 Jun 2016 22:28:50 +0200"  >
This is definitely working as intended. Half slabs, glowstone, etc. have always been able to transfer redstone upwards, but not downwards. It is this way on both Java and Console editions.
</comment>
                            <comment id="312628" author="ybonetz" created="Sat, 11 Jun 2016 02:29:21 +0200"  >
Yes. But not all.But Upside down half blocks, pistons, glowstones, they do. And its working on other versions of MCPE. But a bug on this update makes it a no no on this update. Its not on mcpe only. PC, CONSOLES, you name it. Its an old school redstone component. And This update broke a lot of my past builds. :/
</comment>

A transparent block cannot pass power downward. (wiki)
