[MCPE-14268] Water not flowing where it should

                <project id="10200" key="MCPE">Minecraft (Bedrock codebase)</project>

When placing a water source, if there is a path for it to flow downward, it will flow only in that direction and not spread in any other direction from its source point. Placing blocks in the path of the water can force it to flow around them, and it continues flowing over those points after the blocks are removed.

In addition to source blocks, this behavior also happens with a downward slope water block.

It either trails in a straight line, or fans out partially to full. There's no consistency to its behaviour. If I place a water source block on a flat surface, expected behaviour is for it to fan out in all directions. This doesn't always happen (it rarely happens). I'll usually get a single line in one direction, or a partial fanning effect. Seems to behave worse in hill areas. As it flows downwards it gets broader and covers more ground.
</comment>
                            <comment id="341351" author="puggoh" created="Mon, 7 Nov 2016 19:26:52 +0100"  >
Added screenshots of placing and removing blocks to force normal water behavior.
</comment>

This bug is wreaking havoc on construction of my water spleef arena. It actually happens anytime water from a new source block will flow downward anywhere in its spread. Will I be updated when it is submitted for testing?

Also, please add 0.16.1 to affected versions.
</comment>
                            <comment id="324313" author="puggoh" created="Mon, 8 Aug 2016 19:54:04 +0200"  >
I can reproduce it in 0.15.4, and I finally have steps to reproduce it. I am adding screenshots to the original report.

Step 1: Create a channel for water to flow.
Step 2: Make it flow downward at least one block.
Step 3: Place the water source block.
Step 4: Breaking any adjacent block will not cause water to flow there.
</comment>

                            <comment id="304332" author="puggoh" created="Thu, 12 May 2016 19:08:40 +0200"  >
Sorry, I guess I missed the instruction that steps to reproduce were a requirement for creating an issue. I have encountered it twice by accident, and I have tried to reproduce it on purpose without success. The next time I set up a water trap, I'll keep records of what I do in case the bug strikes again. Then I should be able to go back and find what I did to create it.

When I created the issue I had hoped that someone who knows the source code would have an "a ha!" moment and know the cause anyway, or perhaps someone else would encounter it and know how to reproduce it, as you say.
</comment>

Without knowing that developers can't fix the bug.

...But I hesitate to close it as Incomplete because someone may find a way to repro it.
</comment>
                            <comment id="304063" author="puggoh" created="Wed, 11 May 2016 17:00:33 +0200"  >
In your rush to get through a bunch of issues, you only skimmed this one. You were confused by the inclusion of the second screenshot. I added some notes to the issue description for clarity.

There is no downward slope. It is placed on a flat surface. Look at the first screenshot.

Read the workaround (not pictured). Why would placing a dirt block in its path and removing it cause the water to behave completely differently in exactly the same conditions, block for block? It wouldn't, but it does, because this is a workaround for a bug.
</comment>
                            <comment id="303943" author="kaleb418" created="Wed, 11 May 2016 03:38:41 +0200"  >
<del>This issue works as intended. If you have a feature request, head over to the Minecraft: Pocket Edition Forums.</del>

<del>If water finds a downward slope before reaching its maximum spread, then it will flow in that</del> <del>direction only and the spread count will reset.</del>
</comment>
