Should the status still be "Awaiting response" now that I have confirmed that the only version available to certain iOS users still exhibits the problem?

Should I create a new ticket?
There is this new complication that the chat button cannot be used anymore to look at the chat history. This part of the functionality was working even when the "no typing feedback" problem already existed. So technically, we are dealing with a new bug whose impact is arguably worse, because now one either gets a message as it flies across the screen, or it will be gone forever. In comparison, the "no visible text when typing" bug has a workaround which is "type without visual feedback".

Is there any chance that this bug will be fixed or is every MPE player expected to be able to upgrade to the latest iOS version?

AFAIC, the bug should have been fixed a long time ago, when our iOS versions were still current, or at least not very much outdated.
</comment>
                            <comment id="324417" author="drawesome4333" created="Tue, 9 Aug 2016 16:23:53 +0200"  >
Ok sorry. I was unaware of that. And this ticket is resolved as "awaiting response". So it is not closed. Normally it would be automatically reopened by a robot by a comment in this case it didn't happen.
</comment>
                            <comment id="324373" author="tkuehne" created="Tue, 9 Aug 2016 07:13:37 +0200"  >
David, look at <del>MCPE-13775</del>, for instance. It specifically mentions the iOS version dependency of this bug.
</comment>
                            <comment id="324371" author="tkuehne" created="Tue, 9 Aug 2016 07:09:39 +0200"  >
David, MPE versions higher than 14.3 require at least iOS 8.0.

For my iOS 7.1.1 version, I'm not offered the update to 0.15.4.

If you look at all the submitters (perhaps from duplicated entries as well) you will notice that a lot of them specify that they are running older versions of iOS.

The chat feature has not been broken for newer versions of iOS for quite a while. This bug, however, has existed for older iOS versions for a very long time now. Again, I do not see how this ticket deserves a "Resolved" status, as this particular bug has been about not quite up to date iOS versions for a long time.

Please find a way to bring a fix to us users who cannot update to more modern versions of iOS. It would be much appreciated.
</comment>

                            <comment id="324298" author="tkuehne" created="Mon, 8 Aug 2016 18:18:00 +0200"  >
The problem still exists on version v0.14.3.

In a change from bad to worse, since a couple of versions, I can no longer see past chat messages.

So, typing still has to be done without visual feedback and now one cannot even see past messages anymore (neither from oneself, nor from other players).

Why has this issue been marked as "Resolved"?

Can this bug please be fixed?

FYI, I'm on an iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.1. Upgrade to a newer iOS version is unfortunately not an option.
</comment>

                            <comment id="278953" author="tkuehne" created="Wed, 20 Jan 2016 16:48:30 +0100"  >
I'm suffering from the same issue (iPad 2, iOS 7.1.1, V0.13.0 & V0.13.1).

I initially believed I could not make any text input at all, but after reading this issue description, I tried pressing "Return"/"Enter" on the keyboard, followed by pressing the "Back" button (rather than just pressing the (non-existent) right-arrow button).

This procedure actually allows one to input text (albeit blindly).

Perhaps others suffering from the same issue, will find this comment useful.

Here's to hoping that someone will be assigned to this issue in the not too distant future.
</comment>

It was a used phone that I was told was a 4s when it was given to me, so I suspect that is part of the issue.

And still an issue in 0.13.1
</comment>

Can you try a test for me? When typing in chat, type §4test (or §4 followed by whatever text) and see if you can see red text in the bar where text should be appearing. This way we can see if for some strange reason the text in the chat typing bar was appearing but was black or if nothing's appearing at all.
</comment>
