[MC-9646] Game crashes when I click "single player" in the main menu

                <project id="10400" key="MC">Minecraft: Java Edition</project>

I log into minecraft and the game starts like usual. I can connect to a multiplayer server and start playing fine, but if I click "Single Player" on the main menu, the game instantly freezes and crashes without even displaying the list of saved worlds.

I have tried deleting my bin, resources, etc. folders and redownloading the client, as well as two different JVMs listed above under "Environment." Nothing fixed the problem.

Attached is the crash report from running under OpenJDK 1.6.0_27.

                <environment>Java Version: 1.6.0_27, Sun Microsystems Inc.
Java VM Version: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (mixed mode), Sun Microsystems Inc.
Arch Linux (amd64) kernel version 3.7.5-1-ARCH
Radeon 5770 graphics card, catalyst driver 13.1.1

Also tested with the same results on Oracle jre 1.7.0_13 and OpenJDK 1.7.0_09.</environment>

The game still crashes if the saves directory exists, but Minecraft is missing read/write permissions for it, though. I will file a new issue.

If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
</comment>
