[MC-8797] 8-level flat snow does not act like a snow block

                <project id="10400" key="MC">Minecraft: Java Edition</project>

When removing a block below a snow block created from 8 snow layers, the snow block also gets removed.
This could be intended but confuses because the snow blocks look exactly the same and shouldn't behave different then. Additional issues include it acting like a transparent block, meaning you can't place a button, etc. on it.

                            <comment id="42926" author="redx737" created="Sat, 2 Feb 2013 20:56:56 +0100"  >
About the snow layer crafting recipe, it would make more sense to make its crafting recipe 3 snowballs instead of 3 snow blocks, and make the output 3 snow layers. That would balance everything out more easily, since each snow layer makes 1 snowball. As for snow blocks, it would make more sense for its recipe to require 8 snowballs now, since we can craft the layers.

Anyone agree with my logic?
</comment>
                            <comment id="42919" author="megascience" created="Sat, 2 Feb 2013 20:26:58 +0100"  >
Because each snow block is 4 snow balls, but it takes 8 layers of snow to make a full block, so you're losing even more snowballs in production of it. You're already losing half in the current system as is.
</comment>
                            <comment id="42850" author="johnkcraft" created="Sat, 2 Feb 2013 17:43:44 +0100"  >
Exactly!
</comment>

                            <comment id="42472" author="megascience" created="Fri, 1 Feb 2013 19:36:24 +0100"  >
It takes 4 snowballs to make one snow block. 3 snow blocks makes 6 thin snow. Each thin snow drops 1 snowball. 4 * 3 = 12. So the player loses exactly half the snowballs used to produce thin snow. Wouldn't it be worse if they made full snow blocks?
</comment>

If it's for balance with the recipe or drops of the old snow block, that could be rebalanced to fit with the new system.
Unless there's an advantage to having a second, less-functional, "full" snow block, wouldn't having just one be more sensible?
</comment>

It would be better if the 7 layers get removed and replaced with a snow block when another layer is applied on top.
</comment>
                            <comment id="42378" author="megascience" created="Fri, 1 Feb 2013 15:36:07 +0100"  >
Hmm, but they don't actually work with redstone. Levers on layered snow don't output signal from the layered snow, and signal going into layered snow doesn't turn off a redstone torch. So those would only be for decoration.
</comment>
