[MC-748] Bad ping when offline

                <project id="10400" key="MC">Minecraft: Java Edition</project>

When I start a mc server (exe or jar) on my computer and connect with the client on my computer offline (no internet connection), the connection with localhost or 127.0.0.1 is very bad (only one bar 15000ms and above). If I'm online and connect to the server on my computer over localhost, the connection is good (all bars 65ms). This is since the lan connection is in the game. The connection between client and server on the same computer should be offline as fast as online.

When you ingame (local server) there are no lags or so. Only the time between selecting the multiplayer screen and the time the connections were shown is diffrent. Online it shows up immediately from the local server. Offline you could count one sec, two sec or longer and then the connection was shown. Now in 1.5 there is almost no difference, excluded the strength bar, offline it shows only one bar (no lags ingame).
</comment>

                            <comment id="52779" author="reptile311" created="Thu, 14 Mar 2013 08:28:31 +0100"  >
It is much better. Online 130ms, offline 1000ms. Only the signal, offline it shows only one bar, although server and game are on the same computer.
The main reason seems to be solved in Minecraft 1.5. So, from my side it can be closed,
</comment>

If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
</comment>
                            <comment id="25508" author="reptile311" created="Wed, 28 Nov 2012 10:43:18 +0100"  >
I've tested it again for 1.4.5. Same result. When my computer is connected to the internet the ping is good (132ms), when not the ping is bad (15021ms). The other circumstances are the same as described above. It is equal if I use an old world or if I create a new one.
</comment>

                            <comment id="19129" author="reptile311" created="Wed, 7 Nov 2012 12:10:37 +0100"  >
For me this make no sense, because server and client are on the same computer. I use localhost (or 127.0.0.1), that means you work on your computer not in a network or internet. Why should the computer use a internet connection to connect with himself? Earlier for web dev, I have a web server on my computer, to test the sites and there were no long pings or latency (also localhost).
</comment>
                            <comment id="19027" author="doctor_who" created="Wed, 7 Nov 2012 03:44:12 +0100"  >
Kinda makes sense. When you are not connected you should have a lower ping. If you get a high one when you are not connected then you should get your computer checked. Not a bug.
</comment>
