Lava flows faster in the nether. This is an intentional change. Why did it change? Because we felt that it should.

If you still feel it's a bug that Lava flows faster in the End than in the Overworld, then please create a new ticket.
</comment>

It no longer flows as far or as fast it does in the nether, but it still flows faster than it does in the overworld.
</comment>

That doesn't stop me from making redstone lamp-lit bases with netherbrick walls. I have a friend who uses lava for lighting and aesthetics (and in fact has used it like this in the End too). There's absolutely nothing wrong or strange about that.
</comment>

"Lava flows faster in the nether. This is an intentional change. Why did it change? Because we felt that it should."

I can respect that change, but this report also applies to lava flowing quickly in the End. Dinnerbone, is that intentional too?
</comment>

Is it fixed (but not told about)? Or is it really intended, i.e. does Mojang think that while lava flows faster, it should still decay super-slow (as if in cold place)?

Considering the technical findings behind the issue, I have a reason to think the decay had become even slower than what had been really intended, and now that lava flow rate in nether has been (or will be) increased, it might be an idea to remove that slow down of decay in Nether (and End if it flows faster there, too).
</comment>
                            <comment id="39812" author="bljat" created="Fri, 25 Jan 2013 19:01:52 +0100"  >
The Minecraft Wiki is a community run website - anyone can add/change things.
</comment>
                            <comment id="39807" author="setosorcerer" created="Fri, 25 Jan 2013 18:58:21 +0100"  >
Well I guess there is no point in trying to defend this "bug" anymore since it was meant to be intentional. Could you do something for me at least? Could you update the Minecraft wiki on the change since no one actually found this to be an "update" yet. Keep in mind that most people don't play the snapshot as often as the real game. I however play with the latest because I want to help submit bugs now. I found the water suffocation and the nether void falling bugs during the 1.3 snapshots. Had I known of a way to submit bugs I would have told you about them before Minecraft had to go into 1.3.2.

Lastly can you make it clear on twitter or Reddit that lava is meant to do this. Share with everyone before the 1.5 update is released so that no one submits another bug report like this one. I personally disagree with the change in lava, but I respect your decision in doing so. I will still submit bugs when I see them in the snapshots, as that is their sole purpose. I'm not angry at you, I just wanted a clarification before pursuing the topic any further.
</comment>

On the wiki, it says:

Nether
Added Nether Quartz Ore around the Nether to encourage exploration of the dimension

Nothing on lava, and it actually discourages people from exploring the nether if the lava is flowing extremely fast. I would like a response from Dinnerbones besides that " ", and clarify why this was changed in Minecraft.
</comment>

Dinnerbones commented here, and there is no offical "update" on the Minecraft forums or Mojang.com that confirms that lava was meant to flow faster in the Nether and in The End. Its honestly not fun at all to go to the nether and have to be outrunned by lava.
</comment>

                            <comment id="39589" author="setosorcerer" created="Fri, 25 Jan 2013 01:18:38 +0100"  >
Still not fixed in 13w04a. This is a serious bug because we can't go into the nether without fear that a fast flow of lava will consume us and grief the mess out of the place. In the current version, lava from the ceiling can quickly be plugged just in time before the lava flows. It makes searching for quartz very unfun.

On an unrelated note, Everyone from my snapshot video is leaving comments on how the disprove the bone meal nerf. How about making it so that ever difficulty level has a different effect? Easy =same before the snapshot, Normal = Half of the current snapshot, Hard = Just like 13w04a snapshot. Just a thought Dinnerbones.
</comment>

Sounds really stupid if lava now flows super-fast (in Nether and End), but decays super-slow (everywhere). Perhaps the flow to next block causes itself such an update?
</comment>
                            <comment id="36838" author="bugi74" created="Mon, 14 Jan 2013 21:46:51 +0100"  >
While checking the lava bug, I did first think too that lava would flow faster (water rate) in Nether, but seems this is not the case. The inherent update period for lava seems to be longer (i.e. slower) for lava, no matter where it is. That was/is 1.4.7 state. I'll recheck.

EDIT: yep, the tickrate value is 5 for water, 30 for lava, and it does not check where it is. Lava does have an additional slowdown for the decreasing flow direction (i.e. when source block is removed or otherwise lessening flow), but even that is (was?) independent of where it is.
</comment>

                            <comment id="36832" author="megascience" created="Mon, 14 Jan 2013 21:36:14 +0100"  >
Earlier today someone told me that lava seems to move faster in the snapshot. I went ingame to test, and the results were a bit strange. Testing at a blacksmith, enclosing an area around it with cobble, I tested by breaking the cobble to let the lava flow. While in most cases, it took two seconds for the lava to flow another block, I did notice test where the lava suddenly flowed 2-3 times all at once. I couldn't reproduce this after it happened, but it seems something caused it to update faster than usual. Requires further testing.
</comment>
                            <comment id="36802" author="setosorcerer" created="Mon, 14 Jan 2013 20:53:55 +0100"  >
Well after redoing the bug, I noticed it only flows extremely fast in the Nether. I have provided a small video clip that shows exactly what I mean in this comment. Look at it and you can see a huge difference in speed compared to the overworld. If this was intentional, please tell jeb/dinnerbones to return it back to the way it was. There is no reaction time possible in plugging lava that is flowing from the top and makes mining quartz very difficult.
